BOARD GOVERNANCE
Nimkee NupiGawagan Healing Centre Inc. utilizes the
Policy Governance Model to provide strategic leadership
and governance. In policy governance, the board governs
on behalf of the people in the membership. Regular
monitoring of organizational performance is done against
previously established criteria in policy. The Board
is accountable to both the people in the membership,
our national clientele, and Health Canada.
The incorporation is founded upon the belief that as
an organization, we are responsible and accountable
to the First Nations communities with whom, and for
whom we work. The incorporation sees itself as being
a family, for clients, families and the communities
it serves. Nimkee NupiGawagan Healing Centre upholds
the teachings of the Four Directions: Kindness, Caring/Sharing,
Honesty and Strength.
The Board is mandated to:
Provide solvent addiction treatment services to First
Nations Youth from across Canada.
Nimkee NupiGawagan Healing Centre Inc. is given the
authority, within the National First Nations Addictions
Program of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch
of Health Canada, to establish the solvent addiction
services to be provided and to determine the costs
of providing these services. The management team works
with the Board through the Executive Director to meet
this overall mandate. The Board requires and receives
full disclosure and must:
- approve the strategic plan and annual report
- establish critical success indicators
- approve the overall budget
- monitor any budget variances
- ensure fiscal controls
- approve fiscal policies, and
- review the auditor's report to ensure the financial
accountability of the organization.
